Why does my baby have bad eye boogers?
Goopy eyes in children
It’s more common for children to have eye discharge from an infection when they have a cold. A blocked tear duct is common in infants under age 1. It will usually clear up on its own with no treatment within their first year. Pinkeye, or conjunctivitis, is also common in children.
Can you use eye drops on a newborn?
Antibiotic eye drops or ointment are placed in a newborn’s eyes after birth. This is to protect babies from getting bacterial eye infections that can occur during birth. Untreated, these infections can cause serious problems including blindness. The antibiotic erythromycin is used most often.
How can I get breast milk in my baby’s eye?
Try placing a drop or two of breast milk directly into the inner portion of your baby’s eyes while they are closed— once they open their eyes, the milk will fall into the eyes and work to clear up any infection. Use this treatment a few times a day for a week or two or until their tear ducts have cleared up.
